*Summary The Collections Manager is responsible for the care of the NCHC archives and collections. A key component of this position is making the history housed in our archives accessible to the NCHC members, the local community, the local school, and to the general public. The Collections Manager is responsible for accessioning donations given to the NCHC and ensuring donations are properly stored in the organizations collection building, and is responsible for the day-to-day care, inventory, tracking, and management of artifacts maintained by NCHC. *Duties and Responsibilities Accurately catalog documents, archives, and artifacts of all donations and loans. Properly organize and house all documents, archives, and artifacts. Promptly respond to inquiries regarding donations, arrange for meetings with those wishing to donate, follow up with appropriate paperwork and acknowledgement/thank you correspondence. Facilitate ordering of supplies and material needed for proper storage. Ensure documents are properly added to NCHC Past Perfect and other record keeping systems to ensure all necessary paperwork is completed. Ensure that collection items are identifiable, cataloged, and able to locate. Ensure donations are properly stored and organized in the NCHC Collections Building. Conduct periodic inventory of collection to maintain and preserve objects and artifacts. Maintain and inventory all artifacts and exhibits, tracking items through the use of available software (such as Past Perfect), including photographs and descriptions, and recording who donated or loaned items to NCHC. Maintain / oversee cleaning of all artifacts in collections and in the museum to ensure posterity. Oversee request and use of archive research material. Participate in meetings with the Collections Committee to assist in discussions about accessioning/deaccessioning objects in collection. Supervise collections GRAs, interns, and volunteers. Perform any necessary duties as needed for the successful running, care, and promotion of the McRitchie-Hollis Museum and NCHC. Perform any necessary duties for the successful promotion of NCHC. Assist in the day-to-day operation of the museum as directed in the absence of the Director. When necessary, conduct tours of the museum and other NCHC venues and facilities, sharing the rich history and offering an engaging visitor experience. Participate in community events and meetings as necessary to promote NCHC facilities and activities to increase membership. Help prepare for and staff McRitchie-Hollis events as needed. *Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Excellent curatorial skills and knowledge of collection management and archival best practices. A working knowledge of preservation, care, handling, storage and security of collections. Ability to maintain necessary records for the inventory and tracking of donated artifacts, papers, photographs, collections, etc. and for the return of loaned artifacts. Ability to digitize photographs, documents, and other files for the digital archives and for use in exhibits and publications. Ability to develop an extensive knowledge of NCHC venues, facilities, policies and programs Working knowledge of Past Perfect and InDesign software. Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and planning skills. Knowledge of museum best practices. *Minimum Qualifications -B.A. or B.S. required -Experience or training in collections best practices required -Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, Past Perfect, and Google - -Ability to work independently -Master’s Degree in Museum Studies preferred
Hiring Salary Range (Answer must be numerical)
